Making A Difference and Options for Older Families Programs Making a Difference is a family-focused case management support program assisting those caring for a person with a disability.
Options For Older Families Program: supports carers over 60 years of age who are providing care for a person with a disability. The aim is to assist families to continue providing care, while planning for the future. The Victorian Department of Human Services fund both programs. Caring for a family member with a significant disability can be difficult and stressful. Families and other unpaid carers can find it difficult to get the services they need. This is where our programs can assist. The programs provide a “Family Services Coordinator” to assist families or other unpaid carers to be informed about a range of services that meet their individual support needs. The “Family Services Coordinator” provides support, advocacy and monitoring to assist the care and support of the person with the disability.
Where the person with a disability is an adult, families may need help to plan for the future. This could include planning for alternative accommodation, as the primary carer grows older. Other areas of support may include, educational issues, respite, recreation, health, family & relationship issues.
A key aim of the program is to enhance family decision-making. The flexible support that 'makes a difference' aims to assist the family, enabling the person with a disability to fully participate in family life.
