School Focused Youth Service

School Focused Youth Services (SFYS) is a State-wide service offering support to schools and agencies in building protective factors for vulnerable young people.

Nillumbik Community Health Service works with Banyule and Nillumbik schools and agencies to improve the education, health and wellbeing of vulnerable young people aged 10-18 years
through collaboration and partnership. 

What SFYS Provides you

SFYS coordinates prevention and early intervention strategies for young people through school and community networks. Specifically, it:

  • Provides information, ideas, referral advice   and options for schools and agencies;
  • Facilitates forums and networks for key stakeholders such as staff responsible for student wellbeing in schools;
  • Assists with advocacy and facilitates community based responses to emerging issues; and
  • Provides funding to meet gaps in the educational and community service systems through project or individual brokerage.

Project Brokerage

Funding is available for school/agency partnerships to develop projects that:

  • Directly involve and benefit vulnerable young people aged 10 – 18 years;
  • Meet an existing gap in service; and/or
  • Work towards improving or enhancing existing systems and processes.

Applications are invited during one or two funding rounds each year.

Individual Brokerage

Schools and agencies can apply at any time for up to $500 to assist a vulnerable young person stay connected to education, family or the community. Funding must meet a gap in service and is a last resort and ‘one-off’. It must also form part of a coordinated support plan for the young person.
