The Minister for Health Volunteer Awards celebrate and honour the remarkable work performed by volunteers across Victoria’s public healthcare sector.   The 2010 awards received 65 nominations from 44 different metropolitan, regional, rural and primary health services.

Presenting the awards at Parliament House on 13 May 2010 during National Volunteer Week, Health Minister Daniel Andrews paid tribute to the many volunteers who make a tireless contribution to public healthcare each day.

“Every community in metropolitan and regional Victoria has many unsung heroes who lend a hand, give up their time, and offer their skills to support patients, hospitals, health services and each other.  These extraordinary achievements by individuals and teams of volunteers are made by people who are dedicated and passionate about helping others,” he said.

Nillumbik Community Health Service is delighted to formally acknowledge our Vice-President, Rosemary Aitken, for winning the 2010 Minister for Health Awards for outstanding individual achievement from a primary health service.

Nillumbik Community Health Service CEO, Amanda Murphy said “Rosemary is deserving of this award because of her role in advocating and delivering health services to our local community”.

“Rosemary is an enthusiastic, driven and passionate individual who values the importance of people, and making health services relevant to and accessible by the local community. Her strong community spirit, focus and commitment over the last 38 years is still evident today with her current involvement” she said.

Rosemary became a voluntary member of the Board of Management at Nillumbik Community Health Service, so she could play an integral part in its ongoing development to ensure the health and welfare needs of people living in the community were met.  She has overseen a health service that now services the community in a holistic way to better health and remains today in her volunteer role on the Board of Directors.

Today, the Nillumbik community is provided with a wide range of health related services from Immunisation, Maternal and Child Health Services through to Oral and Allied Health Services, Counselling, Activity Groups and Case Management Programs for older persons, persons with complex needs, disability and bushfire related issues.
